"Your one and only Menace"... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I liked this book way more than I thought I would. The concept of dealing with the elemental spirits and having music be almost a magical gateway... I loved it.
As soon as Jack saw Adaira again after being gone for 10 years, I could immediately sense the tension between them. The moments between them, right from when Jack played for the water spirits, when Adaira proposed, and their first real connections as a married couple, I love them together. I also love Jack's relationship with Mirin and Frey, and Adairas' relationship with Torin and Sidra. Sidra is an epic character and deserves more recognition... I think.
I loved the differences between the East and West; how Jack gets so sick after playing for the spirits in the East, but no one gets sick using their magic when in the West. I thought it was pretty epic. Moray being the one to take the kids is something I kinda saw coming, especially after he meets with Adaira, but I didn't expect that having blood in the water would allow for undetected crossing.
I was devastated for Jack when Adaira had to leave with her biological mom at the end. LIKE LET HIM GO WITH YOU BABE.
5 stars.
